A key feature of the parklands is the water play area, located centrally in the parklands. This water play area will provide opportunities for all ages to have fun, keep cool and explore water safety.
Gladstone Ports Corporation and Hutchinson Builders contracted the manufacture of the interactive water feature and Albert Smith, as sign makers, collaborated with the artist to understand their artistic vision and create practical solutions for design construction , manufacture and installation.
Sculptor is probably the best description to describe Simone Eisler-Visual Artist. Her designs marry form and function across a variety of disciplines. Simone’s interactive water sculpture, SENTINEL, responds powerfully as a large scale focal work whilst providing shade and water play opportunities.Sentinel is 6m high and has a uniquely faceted trunk which was constructed of ACM profiles and mounted to a fully galvanised steel frame. The trunk was tiled with 7 different shades of 20mm glass tiles in a mosaic arrangement. On top of the tiled trunk sits a multi faceted diamond shape clad in mirror finish Rimex, 1.2mm stainless steel sheet. Two overlapping 6m diameter steel frame canopies were clad in gold and blue Rimex 1.2mm stainless steel sheet and mounted on the trunk at a 15 degree angle to provide shade. The trunk features five lower “CatWhisker” jets and one higher “FatBoy” jet turning the artwork into a fully interactive water feature
