As Sign Makers, Smith Signs had just 5 working days to manufacture and install a monolith 10 metre double sided, illuminated, pylon sign for the redevelopment of the Rothwell Shopping Centre.
Pylon signs are main site identification directional signs providing customers with advance notice when approaching a centre. Pylon signs also build brand awareness from a distance for the main tenants.
It was a co-ordinated team effort across all our manufacturing departments to deliver such a gigantic product in so short a timeframe.
The steel frame was engineered to council specifications and then clad with aluminium composite material (ACM). The acrylic identification panels are overlaid with vinyl graphics as well as digital prints and illuminated with LED technology.
The illuminated sign’s eye catching prominence delivers maximum brand visibility at night with LED illumination, providing significant energy cost reduction, consistent brightness and uniformity, long lasting performance and better for the environment. The head panel illumination consists of 22 x ASTech LED 22 watt tubes, 1200mm in length drawing 2.01 amps. The pylon body required 110 x ASTech LED 25 watt tubes, 1500mm in length drawing 11.4 amps. Facing the roadway is a highly visible blue line which is a white ASTech LED strip, covered in opal acrylic and overlayed with blue vinyl.
The 10 metre corporate signage was transported in one piece on engineered transport stillage’s, and was then stood and installed on the same day. The area was cordoned off by a barrier for public and site safety. As the pylon sign was over 10 metres in length, two cranes were necessary to lift the pylon off the truck bed. It was then suspended in mid-air before being lowered onto the hold down bolts.
In partnership with ADCO Constructions, Albert Smith Signs’ manufacturing experience and expertise overcame the many challenges of manufacturing, delivering and installing the Rothwell Shopping Centre pylon within the five day timeframe.
