The Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital (LCCH) is one of the largest infrastructure projects currently under way in Australia. Construction is now well advanced. As a Queensland manufacturing company, Albert Smith Signs are proud to have manufactured and installed the signage elements for such an iconic Queensland Health facility.
Lend Lease, as the managing contractor responsible for building the hospital partnered with Albert Smith Group as Sign Makers to manufacture and install the large amount of corporate signage for the LCCH. The signage consists of high level signs, building signs, pylon signs, illuminated signs, LED signs, directional and way finding signage and digital print decorative murals.
Last month, the most visual element of the building signage, the sky sign, was installed. It was a logistical challenge for our Brandcare Installation and Maintenance division that required road closures, a 250 tonne mobile crane with 56m luffing fly set up in the street that carried the spider lift with a 37m reach to the east elevation roofline allowing the installation of the high level signage.
Flat aluminium shapes replicated the individual white 3D building sign letters and were welded to an aluminium support rail painted to match the building cladding. The high level sign fabricated aluminium letters, 1400mm in height and wet sprayed white, were fixed to the flat aluminium shapes on the supporting rail.
Using approximately 1,600 X 0.72 watt ASTech surface mounted (SMD) optic lensed LED’s with a 153 degree viewing angle will provide illumination, deliver energy savings, reduce maintenance costs for a long life, iconic, high level illuminated sign that cannot be missed.
The LED signage electrical cable wiring was completed prior to wall sheeting to ensure power supplies were well positioned and easily accessible.
High level signage projects demand expertise and experience to manage complex logistical challenges, structural engineering and project management, all aspects of safety management and public protection during installation. Smith Signs and Brandcare’s expertise and experience overcame the challenges associated with the manufacturing and installation of this high profile, high level and highly visible Sky Sign.
